POLO WIZ: Meet U.S Born Eldoret Rapper With A New Ep Release

Polo Wiz has recently released a six-song EP titled “MOOD 4EVA”.

Polo Wiz is an American-born rapper - born in Lowa ( a midwestern state of the U.S.A) and currently living in Eldoret. He moved to Kenya in the late 90s. 

Polo Wiz started his education in Malaba, Kitale then Eldoret where he pursued
his Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) Degree at the University of Eldoret.

“Philip Hartman Omunyin is what you will see on my ID,”

He said chuckling. 

I raised an eyebrow because that was a name I didn’t expect and the interview suddenly became
interesting. He went further to narrate that he was born in Iowa, a midwestern state of the
U.S.A. in the mid-’90s. 

“Okay, I see why Hip-hop,” I chimed in, he laughed and said, “Naah even if I was to be born in Kenya, I’d still be a rapper it’s in the blood.” 

What is an EP?

EPs are common in today’s music scene, embraced by established and upcoming artists in Kenya. An EP stands for Extended Play record. It consists of four to seven songs, longer than a single but shorter than an album. 

In a time where there are so many artists and projects being released in

the music industry an EP seems to be a better choice as it’s less time-consuming and not
too expensive.

Who is Polo Wiz"?

The rapper describes himself as an easy guy, a lover of life, and a person who’s into many
things. Starting out he was inspired by the OG  (Khaligraph Jones) Jua Kali from Calif records, Octopizzo, Nyashinski, Lil Wayne, Jada Kiss, Nas, Jay Z and Camp Mulla among others. 

Like most of us, Polo Wiz got his nickname from his peers while still on Campus, the alias Polo was adapted from his sense of style, and he showed up a lot to class donning Ralph Lauren’s Polo shirts. Wiz was later added to the already-known nickname Polo as a rhyme inspired by Lil Wayne (lil Wizzy) and Wizkid fit for his rap career.  It’s common for rappers to be spotted wearing and even rapping about world

renowned designs like Polo, Gucci, Fendi, Christian Dior, and many more. Clearly Polo Wiz
was well on his way into the Hip-hop world since his days on Campus.

of his early work, “Under Control”, and “I go deep” and on YouTube where he recently released his new EP.

Excitement was evident in his voice as he explained why he chose to deliver an EP

and how each song came to be. “ The songs depict my state of mind and mood at the
moment, hence the title Mood 4Eva “, he said

The artist is definitely multitalented and an entrepreneur by nature, not only is he a rapper, a singer, a writer, and an executive producer, but he’s also playing a role in the fashion world. He has a clothing brand dubbed Polo Nation that will soon be dropping the “Mood 4Eva”
merchandise.

Asked about the Hip-hop genre situation In Eldoret, Polo Wiz urged the champions to
venture into different genres of music and not shy away from rap music too. 

"Eldoret town should brace itself for the takeover by Polo Wiz" in his own words, “Are they

even ready!?” The artist is looking to shape his own brand and leave a mark in the world of
Hip-hop locally and internationally.
